I stopped by Iron’s Distillery to buy three bottles for gifts after tasting it at a friend’s house. This product has the best elements of bourbon and rye—the perfect amount of sweetness and spice. For a high proof whiskey this is incredibly smooth. I had a $35 glass of Pappy Van Winkle in San Antonio last month and Irons is better by far. It isn’t even close. The secret it seems is aging in tiny barrels which gives a surface area that the big barrels (like Jack, Makers, etc use) cannot touch. The resulting product is amazing for such a young whiskey. This is a boutique spirit that has to be tasted to be believed. It only needs a heavy old fashioned glass and a single ice cube. Mr. Irons is to be congratulated. When the world catches on he won’t be able to keep it on the shelf.
